The Five Keys to Ensuring Customer Data Privacy

Overview Data privacy is fast emerging as the biggest challenge for compliance and security officers. According to a FTC report published in January 2006, the Commission received 255,565 identity theft complaints in 2005. More than 20 states have enacted legislation along the lines of California SB 1386, that impose strict penalties for breaches involving personal information. Much of this data resides in relational databases. Traditional security methods are inadequate for protecting sensitive information stored in databases, especially from attacks that are launched from within the perimeter.
