Achieving High Availability and Cutting Hardware Costs With Symantec Storage Management Solution

Overview As a major U.S. university's School of Engineering (SOE) transitioned its growing research environment to Linux, the technical support group needed a Linux-compatible storage automation solution. Building on the school's good experiences with Veritas Storage Foundation with Sun/Solaris servers, they chose Veritas Storage Foundation for Linux from Symantec. The school benefits by having a unified approach to storage automation across both platforms. Productivity of the technical support group has increased greatly, with a 97 percent decrease in time for the most common task, reallocating storage. Availability of the SOE's storage servers has also increased to 99.98 percent, with no reports of disruptions to research work over the past several months.
