Roger Williams Medical Center is a community-owned and governed health care organization located in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. In mid 2005, the medical center's IT organization reached a critical IT tipping point. Many of the organization's vital servers needed to be refreshed and, simultaneously, the organization faced strong demands for data storage resources to support a new, mobile bedside charting system, a planned Picture Archive and Communications System (PACS), and many other initiatives. To meet these needs, Roger Williams implemented a centralized server infrastructure and Storage Area Network (SAN). This solution is based on the HP BladeSystem, along with a consolidated, virtualized HP StorageWorks 8000 Enterprise Virtual Array SAN.
