Overview As the communications market continues to mature, service providers are faced with the increased imperative to differentiate on new services and applications or risk commoditization. To date, there have been a number of proposed solutions with widespread industry favor for the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Home Subscriber Server (HSS) model. However, there are still many limitations to these new models due to their infancy. This paper presents the approach and implementation of wedding the HSS user identity and service profile model with URLs, Domain Name System (DNS), and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), which is closely aligned with how Web services collaborate.
