Beyond Corporate Walls: Symbol Mesh Networks

Overview There has been plenty of publicity recently about the use of MEMS in a laser scanner. The manufacturer of a MEMS based scan engine is promoting the idea that simply replacing a single component of an otherwise conventional laser scanner, somehow results in significant performance improvements. This claim ignores the fact that a laser scanner is a very complex system in which the device that scans the laser (the MEMS device) is only one of several things that influence scanning performance. As will be described in this paper, the improvements in the new SE 950 and SE 955 go far beyond simply replacing the scanning mechanism.
