Overview This paper discusses some of the factors one should consider before investing in a POS system. For the up front investment for hardware, software and networking, one must add the cost of maintenance. These are the expenses one pays to vendors, or which one incurs with in-house technical staff, to maintain the hardware and basic system software and networking infrastructure - to solve problems as they occur, to avoid "Down-time" and certainly to avoid lost data.
