Virtual Private Networks (VPN) Over Satellite: atrexx and UDcast Provide Cost-Effective Connectivity for Corporate Networks
Overview Satellites are ideal for Internet and private network access over long distances and to remote locations. Satellite based IP connections provide an ubiquitous and instantaneous solution to companies seeking to include into their corporate network subsidiaries and production facilities, also in regions with a poor telecommunications infrastructure. A very cost-effective solution results when taking advantage of the public shared Internet infrastructure with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnel. However, the Internet protocols are not optimized for satellite conditions, and consequently, the throughput of a VPN over satellite is normally restricted to only a fraction of the available bandwidth. Together with its Partner UDcast, atrexx has developed a solution which overcomes the traditional limitations of VPN via satellite.
