Overview Despite signs of a recent comeback, corporate IT spending remains soft. The result: many companies are now saddled with under-utilized IT assets and high operating costs. Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are under pressure to find new ways to reduce technology costs, while simultaneously supporting new application development to develop and sustain business strategies. In short, they are being asked to do more with less. Many companies in the survey are responding by streamlining technology environments through a host of initiatives called "Architecture consolidation," which reduces the size and complexity of everything from server networks to database instances to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications.
