eTrust SiteMinder Secure Proxy Server: The Secure Gateway to Enterprise Resources
Overview The eTrust SiteMinder Web Agent-based solution provides distributed access control with fine-grained authorization tightly linked with individual applications and servers. In contrast, the eTrust SiteMinder Secure Proxy Server provides centralized access management to control traffic entering the Enterprise Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Customers may choose to deploy these solutions singly, or in combination, to provide the most appropriate security and administration solution for any of their Web applications. This paper begins with an overview of these two access control strategies, then details the features and benefits of a proxy-based deployment and finally reviews when it makes sense to combine the two approaches.
