MAC Protocols Derived From IEEE 802.11 Virtual Carrier Sensing Mechanism
Overview This paper discusses various MAC layer protocols that exploit the potentials of hardware like Directional antenna and rate adaptive wireless devices. These protocols aimed at modifying the most popularly used MAC protocol IEEE 802.11 to incorporate the available hardware. The paper also presents the protocol that does not require any hardware support, instead it acts as a support for multipath routing protocols and enhances their performances by MAC layer anycasting in order to find the best link to forward data packets to the destination.
