June 2006 IT Priorities Report
Overview
In the June 2006 survey of IT priorities among medium to large U.S. organizations, IT decision makers report spending more on software infrastructure than other solutions, followed by wired and wireless networking and hardware upgrade projects. Over the next 12 months, software infrastructure initiatives will account for the largest portion of IT spending, with hardware and networking spending positioned as the #2 and #3 greatest allocations. Within the hardware category, nearly half of project spending is on servers with the greatest emphasis on server upgrades. This level of spending is expected to remain around 45% through the next 12 months.
CNET Network's IT Priorities Research Program surveys technology decision makers in medium and large organizations each month and asks them about their current and planned IT spending. The study is designed to provide a near-real-time snapshot of business technology project priorities over two timeframes: now and 12 months in the future. CNET has been publishing these data since November 2002.
