Storage Optimization: Information Lifecycle Management

Overview Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is a sustainable storage strategy that balances the cost of storing and managing information with its business value. Optimizing storage is the process of aligning storage use with service level requirements. The objective of storage optimization is to meet business requirements at the lowest possible cost. Recent advances in storage resource management, data movement and placement technologies, and virtualization allow the effective use of storage tiers to accomplish this objective. This paper will examine the underlying elements of storage optimization, and describe a path for using an ILM strategy to achieve optimized storage.
