White Paper: Connecting the Digital Home - Emerging Technologies for Creating Home Networks

Overview Though current 802.11x (WiFi) technologies offer enough capacity for sending data traffic to multiple PCs and devices linked together in a home network, they provide insufficient throughput and control of the quality and latency of the signal for transmitting video applications. Therefore, it is imperative that service providers find a more feasible technology for delivering multimedia content throughout subscriber's homes. This white paper presents an overview of the emerging home network technologies that service providers can adopt and distribute to consumers, including HomePlug, HomePNA, data over coax. 802.11n, and Ultra-wideband.
