Best Practices: WHOIS Searching Issues and Time-Saving Tips

Overview Domain names records are authoritative electronic records maintained by a domain name registrar (i.e. Iron Mountain, Network Solutions, GoDaddy) that contain registrant ("Owner") contact, name server and IP address information along with creation and expiration dates. All registrars of domain names in the generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) are required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers known as ICANN, a non-profit regulatory body) to provide a publicly accessible, searchable online database of their domain name registrant customer's names. The records are typically referred to as "WHOIS" records.
