Self-Tuned Predictive LMS Algorithm for Mobile Channel Tracking

Overview The use of one step Predictive Least Mean Square (PLMS) algorithm for wireless channel tracking is explored. The optimum PLMS algorithm tracking performance is based on the optimum choice of smoothing constant and step size which depend on a priori knowledge of the fading channel properties which is usually not obtainable in practice. A self tuning implementation is proposed to perform online channel estimator parameter optimization based on gradient descent without any priori fading channel knowledge is proposed. The simulations show that the proposed self tuned PLMS has better performance in tracking mobile channels compared with conventional and fixed parameter PLMS channel estimators.
