Intel Centrino Mobile Technology Helps China Huadian's HQ to Improve Management Methods and Enhance Efficiency

Overview China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) was established in 1982 by the Chinese Government and is responsible for the exploitation of China's offshore oil and gas resources in co-operation with foreign partners. Increasing market demand, competition and rapid changes in the global oil economy are pushing CNOOC to increase its oil output. The company's existing RISC-based servers were unable to support the increasing workload. CNOOC wanted a cost-effective and stable system that could easily process the massive amounts of data it collected from the ocean floor. The company deployed four high-performance SGI Altix 350 servers that configured with 16 Intel Itanium 2 processors as the platform to run the oil reservoir simulation system.
