Could e-mail be the killer app that drives Linux adoption?

Overview In this ZDNet Video Whiteboard, Julie Hanna Farris explains why mail and groupware services could drive Linux adoption in the server room.

While Linux has made little progress in gaining market share on the desktop, it continues to make inroads in the server room. One of the applications that could drive further Linux adoption on the server side is mail and groupware services.

In this ZDNet Video Whiteboard, Julie Hanna Farris of Scalix explains that 55% of organizations are either planning or considering Linux for mail and groupware. She cites three main reasons: better reliability, better security, and better price/performance.

Farris also goes on to explain how companies can migrate to a Linux-based mail platform with little to no disruption for end users because they can still use the mail client of their choice. Meanwhile, the organization can save money and the IT department can benefit from the advantages of Linux.

What do you think? Is your organization considering a migration to Linux for mail services and/or other applications?
