Provide essential information with this project communication plan

Overview Planning the most effective ways to communicate with team members, customers, and stakeholders, especially on larger projects, is essential to project success. Here's a look at how to proceed and a sample plan to get you started.

A communication plan enables you to think through how you can communicate most efficiently and effectively to the various project constituents. It allows you to deliver information in the right format, at the right time, and with the right impact. Creating a communication plan entails a number of steps, including:

  • Identifying the project stakeholders.
  • Determining the communication needs for each stakeholder and deciding what you're trying to accomplish.
  • For each stakeholder/objective, brainstorming on how best to fulfill the communication need.
  • Adding the communication activities you decide on to the workplan.

This updated download covers all the steps in detail and offers a sample plan that illustrates the type of communication strategies that will help guide your project to a successful conclusion. We've included an Excel workbook version of the plan so that you can adapt it for your own use.
