Video Conferencing White Papers

Polycom PVX software makes desktop video conferencing work

Overview Until quite recently, desktop video conferencing with a PC and a low cost camera had sounded like a great idea but usually involved connection difficulties and very low quality video. One product that can make desktop video conferencing much more useful in a business setting is the Polycom PVX software. It works with many USB Web cams and provides very good video quality using H.264 compression, although PVX is definitely a resource hog. Read about all the pros and cons and what this product has to offer in this Business Tech Profile.

This download was originally published on April 15, 2005. In that review we criticized PVX for lacking a small app that sits in the systray and answers incoming calls. Since that time we have discovered the product's "Auto-start Application in Background" setting that does just this.
