IT HR - Staffing - Training White Papers

Quickly assess new employees' computer skills with this evaluation form

Overview Develop the best plan for training and supporting new employees by using this form to gauge their level of computer expertise.

When a new employee walks in the door, the IT staff has gained a user to support--possibly someone who has little or no real computer experience. To avoid surprises and to better prepare for bringing users up to speed on the equipment and software they'll be working with, ask them to complete this simple form. You'll be able to accommodate any skills deficits more effectively once you determine what they know (and don't know). This form asks new employees to rate their skills across a host of technologies, including:

  • General computer use
  • Peripherals such as scanners and CD writers
  • Business productivity applications, browsers, online meeting software

It also asks employees a few questions designed to reveal their understanding of topics like information security, file management, and the process of reporting a computer problem.
