User Involvement in Software Project Development: A Review of Models

Overview This paper will examine the effect of user-participation on software projects and the ways to improve user involvement to achieve effective communication management. Moreover, examples of different user-developers links employed in different projects will be discussed. IS literature suggests that user involvement in system development is critical to the success of the systems, but does not guarantee success. Important point in user involvement is that users should define business processes and systems functionality, not system design details. Therefore, the nature and quality of the communication between users and developers, user-involvement frameworks in systems development should be studied when user participation is concerned.
