Overview As an experienced user of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), the information security group for a legislative body was looking to the future. It wanted to improve its IDS detection accuracy, attack coverage, and performance and reduce its operational costs while leveraging its four-year investment in its Cisco IDS. Plus, as part of a strategic plan for the lifecycle end of its existing IDS hardware, it is evaluating whether an IDS that requires fewer sensors would deliver a lower cost of ownership. To test its theories, the information security team turned to McAfee IntruShield network security products, the real-time intrusion detection and prevention system. The government body has deployed IntruShield to augment its intrusion detection capabilities with broader signature coverage, anomaly and DoS detection, and higher bandwidth performance.
