A National Healthcare System Delivers Tomorrow's Leading Healthcare Services Today

Overview Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is a nationally recognized, award-winning healthcare system that serves the residents of Cambridge, Somerville and Boston, Massachusetts' metro-north region. In 2000, Nortel began working with CHA to upgrade its data network and connected the three main hospitals with leased lines in a hub and spoke architecture. However, it did not support the bandwidth required to implement new healthcare applications, such as Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) or digital radiology systems involving the computerized management and distribution of diagnostic images such as x-rays, CT and MRI. The solution was A managed Optical Ethernet Virtual Private LAN service based on the Optical Metro 3500 to consolidate traffic and connect the main CHA sites.
