Developing Manageable Applications Using ITIL Best Practices
Overview The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) has gained acceptance in European and North American markets as a guiding methodology for best practices in delivering IT services. So far, ITIL adopters have focused on Service Support and Service Delivery disciplines as a direct means for improving service quality in the enterprise. ITIL, however, goes beyond Service Support and Service Delivery to also guide IT shops in developing manageable applications, implementing security measures, and defining approaches to IT-business alignment. ITIL's Applications Management guide (also known as the "Gold Book") provides recommendations on how to design applications with services and manageability in mind. The increasing adoption of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) enables new levels of automation for the delivery and support of IT services.
