Overview Open source relational database technology is poised to disrupt the commercial market space. With the numbers for the commercial relational database space essentially stagnant and enterprises seeking relief from commercial licensing costs, open source databases are starting to make headway. While many open source relational databases exist, MySQL and PostgreSQL are two of the most widely known and widely deployed in the world. In addition to MySQL and PostgreSQL, Firebird and Ingres are two worthy competitors in the open source RDBMS realm. Both of these databases are mature and have commercial service and support offerings.
