Oracle Case Study: Pohang Iron & Steel Co.

Overview From its beginnings in 1968 as a small, government-owned steel company, Pohang Iron & Steel Co. (POSCO) has grown into one of the world's leading steel producers. The company wanted to consolidate and standardize disparate business rules, processes, and system interfaces and increase operational efficiency to retain and enhance industry leadership. They wanted to build an IT system that is capable of quickly changing and adapting to new market needs and migrate mission-critical Manufacturing Execution System (MES) from legacy mainframe to Java-based open system architecture. POSCO installed Oracle Application Server 10g as the foundation for a new manufacturing execution system and used Oracle JDeveloper 10g to quickly develop a Java-compliant infrastructure.
