Edge Repeaters: Challenges and Benefits

Overview EDGE - Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution - is a 3G radio technology capable of transporting data rates of 384 kBits/s or higher - that gives a three-fold increase in throughput of GPRS-enhanced GSM networks. These increases could be used either, to provide each user with increased data speed, or allow many more users to be served by the same infrastructure. With Edge stand-alone or complementing WCDMA the vast majority of 3G services will be seamless for the subscriber irrespectively of EDGE or WCDMA. This white paper focuses on the increased requirements of radio signal quality and its implications on the use of repeater in a mobile (GSM/EDGE) network.
