Wireless: Coming Next to a Handset Near You

Overview As Wireless pervades nearly every aspect of life, there are two principal trends which impact higher education. First, students of the "Net' or "M" generation arrive at the university with an increasingly higher level of technological literacy and correspondingly, expectations of what the campus will provide them. This is usually focused on anytime, anywhere high-speed access to the Internet. Second, campuses have thought of wireless access as something to be brought to a building or exterior contiguous space. But, that view is no longer consistent with reality. This paper focuses on wireless LANs, the evolving wireless WANs and the convergence of the two on handheld devices.
