An Electrified Approach to Asset Management

Overview Elia is Belgium's national electricity transmission system operator. For an essential electricity grid operator with a reputation for providing one of Europe's most reliable grids, the stagnant style of managing its asset information did not match the energized flow of its electricity network. In 2000 Elia decided it was time to electrify its approach to network information management and launched a radical campaign to move the company from an inefficient, isolated paper-based environment to an efficient, open computerized environment. With help from STAR INFORMATIC and its Web-enabled GIS software solutions, Elia created both an electronic Document Management System (DMS) for storing and maintaining its maps and technical drawings and a GIS to enable users to view the agency's network information geographically.
