Tracking the Transit Tracks in Brussels

Overview A lot rides on the rails of Brussel's STIB/MIVB transportation network - commuters, families, students, visitors. Over the last few years, STIB/MIVB has embarked on a new management approach to effectively serve its customers, including diversifying services and greatly improving performance levels. The demands for safe and efficient travel translates to daily management of every track segment, signal and point along the entire rail network - scheduling inspections, performing maintenance, and planning the construction of new lines. Understanding that each of these railway assets needs to work in unison to safely move trams from A to B, STIB/MIVB adopted a GIS based on STAR INFORMATIC software to enable personnel to work together to manage effectively these physical assets that lie outside their offices.
