Protecting Safety and Improving Efficiencies in the Health Care Supply Chain - Using Electronic Product Codes

Overview The HDMA's Collaborative Commerce Committee, have been generally charged with exploring ideas that will streamline and improve collaborative commerce's best practices, processes, and technologies. More specifically, the committee is now focusing on ways to increase safety and efficiency at all levels within the supply chain and the arenas it serves. This white paper grows out of that charge. Based on the committee's work with the Auto-ID Center since October 2002, the committee, have concluded that the combination of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system and a unique numbering system that delivers mass serialization offers the power and practicality to meet the needs of the healthcare supply chain. This white paper explains the factors that led to this conclusion.
