GeoConnections Is Building a GIS Superhighway for Canada

Overview GeoConnections, a Canadian partnership initiative led by Natural Resources Canada, is charged with developing the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI), which is making Canada's geospatial databases, tools, and services readily accessible online. But when Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which store geospatial data, lack a common data model, the systems can't easily share information. That's why GeoConnections wants to promote Open GIS Consortium (OGC) standards for geospatial information exchange for GIS data throughout Canada. Implementing common standards will improve information exchange for organizations using the Autodesk MapGuide WMS Extension that Autodesk has developed in partnership with GeoConnections.
