Nortel Networks Case Study: NASA Kennedy Space Station's Joint Industry Press Center (JIPC)

Overview The Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida, wanted to provide wireless mobility, connectivity and accessibility to journalists from around the world reporting the most recent space shuttle launch from the Kennedy Space Center. A Nortel mobility solution based on Wireless Mesh Networking, allowing journalists to use their laptops and handheld PDAs while roaming the six-acre press area and to report the story to their home offices in real-time was implemented. Based on unlicensed 802.11 technology, Nortel's Wireless Mesh Network solution provides wireless broadband services without the need to invest in expensive radio spectrum.
