In efforts to streamline and standardize the current business process of managing shoreline permits within the Mobile District of the US Army Corps of Engineers, a relational database, utilizing MapObjects technology was created. The paper presents the process used by the Spatial Data Branch to design and distribute a user-friendly, Microsoft Access database that enables non-GIS users to quickly retrieve data through both spatial and attribute queries, without requiring a license to high-end ArcGIS software.
