GIS Approach to Shoreline Management Using MapObjects and MS Access

Overview In efforts to streamline and standardize the current business process of managing shoreline permits within the Mobile District of the US Army Corps of Engineers, a relational database, utilizing MapObjects technology was created. The paper presents the process used by the Spatial Data Branch to design and distribute a user-friendly, Microsoft Access database that enables non-GIS users to quickly retrieve data through both spatial and attribute queries, without requiring a license to high-end ArcGIS software.
