IBM TotalStorage SAN File System as an Infrastructure for Multimedia Servers

Overview Storage area networks (SANs) provides an ideal infrastructure to build a multimedia serving environment, but requires additional support layers to effectively exploit the SAN with multiple applications in heterogeneous environments. One such layer is the file system. IBM TotalStorage SAN File System simplifies file and data management in SANs by consolidating file systems across servers on different platforms. This paper discusses how a SAN satisfies the storage hardware needs of multimedia servers, how SAN File System meets the storage, access, and management requirements for media files. It also provides a brief overview of the architectural design of SAN File System.
