Impact of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks on the Mobile Value System

Overview Ad hoc networks might be a disruptive technology in the mobile telecommunication industry. They are based on technologies like 802.11x and Bluetooth and range from wide area solutions to Personal Area Networks. Although they may not substitute current infrastructure in the near future they may threaten the dominant position of mobile operators enabling other players within the mobile value system to improve their relative bargaining position. This paper assesses the technological characteristics and capabilities of different types of ad hoc networks.
