GSM-UMTS Network Evolution Positioning Paper
Overview This paper presents the driving factors that will not only ensure that GSM infrastructure exploits the latest technology, but also acts as an effective catalyst for the network transformation. This transformation will evolve the network from a 2/2.5G infrastructure to a high-speed multimedia delivery engine whereby the core network evolves from a TDM switching platform to a reliable and intelligent operating system. In addition, the cell site becomes five to ten times more spectrally efficient in one third of the footprint, allowing for reduced cost of ownership and the provisioning of new high-bandwidth, revenue-generating services.
