Sun's Data Migration Experience Helps Ensure Successful Business Transition
Overview Prior to the merger, Virgin Direct had kept its Oracle customer management system (CMS) database in its Norwich data center on two Sequent NUMA-Q 2000 servers, which it shared with sister company Virgin One. Following the formation of Virgin Money, the company needed to extract the CMS data for the Virgin Direct customers and move it to an independent system that would serve Virgin Money exclusively. To help ensure a successful database migration, Virgin Money turned to consultants from Sun Services, who finished the full migration in 13 hours. After migrated its data to the Sun Enterprise servers, Virgin Money has achieved a 33 percent reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO) for its server environment.
