Sun and Carrier-Grade Linux - Accentuating Choice in the Telecom Market

Overview Linux is a highly popular server operating system. Users are attracted to its vendor independence, openness, extensibility, and cost. Linux has matured significantly in recent years, and now offers essentially the same features found in other modern UNIX operating systems, including native POSIX threads, priority scheduling, asynchronous I/O, and more. Linux runs on virtually any major hardware platform, including Intel, SPARC, AMD Opteron, and numerous others. Its open source development environment supports dozens of file system types and hundreds of hardware components. Linux offers high-performance networking, and is commercially supported.
