The Flexibility of CDMA Mesh Networks

Overview Spread spectrum communication is attractive for wireless mesh networks for a number of reasons, including its inherent security features and robustness to interference. This paper takes a cross-layer view of CDMA mesh networks, and based on recent research, considers the pros and cons of spread spectrum across a variety of key network performance metrics. Although it is argued that CDMA does not improve the inherent spectral efficiency of mesh networks, the paper shows that it provides design freedom and flexibility over narrowband systems, particularly in dense mesh networks.
