Towards Optical Service-Aware Networks in Asia-Pacific

Overview APAC is an incredibly diverse region, with extremely sophisticated and fast-developing markets for both fixed and mobile services, for residential and corporate users. Across the region, 60 million new fixed phone lines, 14 million new broadband connections, and 160 million mobile subscriptions will be added in 2005. Meanwhile, operators in mature markets, with fixed voice revenue erosion, are launching themselves into new-generation services like Triple-Play and other entertainment services. Some are now offering bandwidths to residential users that were previously only required by the largest multinationals. Remarkably, given such a diverse environment, most operators are adopting single optical service-aware network solutions for connectivity and end-to-end service support.
