Dell Ports Systems Management Console Quickly With Visual J# .NET
Overview Dell is the world's leading computer systems company. Dell had a problem: its flagship network management application's user interface ran on a Java Virtual Machine that Microsoft would not be able to support in the future. The solution? Upgrade to Visual J# .NET. Dell OpenManage IT Assistant ships with PowerEdge servers and helps companies manage systems distributed through the Enterprise. IT Assistant's user interface was built in Visual J++, and used to run on the Microsoft Java VM, which Microsoft will no longer be able to support after September 2004. As a result, Dell ported IT Assistant to Visual J# .NET; the ported application compiled after 1 day of work, was feature-complete after 2 weeks, and was fully tested and released in 3 months.
