The University of Missouri-Rolla Reconstructs Its Data Centers Using Dell PowerEdge Servers and VMware Virtualization Software

Overview The University of Missouri has provided education, research opportunities, and services to its students since it was founded in 1839. The UMR IT department needed to be able to deploy and reclaim resources in a fast, predictable manner to maximize efficiency and responsiveness while minimizing downtime. After researching different vendor offerings for server consolidation, UMR turned to Dell, one of the university's preferred providers for hardware, software, and support services. The UMR team replaced 65 existing servers that had low CPU loads with nine Dell PowerEdge 2650 servers running VMware ESX Server.
