Keep Windows 2000 Longer, But Don't Skip XP

Overview Microsoft's announcement of an extended support life cycle for Windows 2000 is good news. Enterprises can bring in Windows 2000 on new hardware for longer and run the OS with lower risk for an additional three years. However, enterprises should not plan on skipping Windows XP entirely because they probably will have availability and support issues before Longhorn can be widely deployed. Enterprises should plan to bring in new PCs running Windows XP no later than YE03.
