Gramm-Leach-Bliley Privacy Requirements Not Only Applicable to Banks

Overview On November 12, 1999, President Clinton signed into law the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (the Act). In addition to breaking down the barriers between commercial banking, investment banking, and insurance sales and underwriting, the Act also sets forth various consumer privacy rights protections. Compliance with the Act may impose significant operational, programming and monitoring costs for organizations that historically have not been subject to customer confidentiality limitations.
