Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform: Virtualization Without Limits

Overview Virtualization is a technique that has been used for many years to mask complexity, enable new functionality, and drive improvements in performance, connectivity, capacity, and availability. Virtualization has been used in servers to make one physical server appear as multiple logical servers. RAID is a virtualization technique that is used in disk storage systems to increase availability and performance. VLANs and, more recently, VSANs have been introduced to enhance security and availability in IP and Fibre Channel networks. This white paper examines the requirements for storage virtualization, the architectural choices of Hitachi, Ltd., the various components of this new Hitachi solution offered by Hitachi Data Systems, and its implications for customers and the industry.
