Enabling Communication With the Help of Technology

Overview The critical component of the Kansas School for the Deaf's communication initiative was in its keyboarding curriculum. All students participated in this coursework, taking two to three classes per week. The keyboarding skill application is made in all classes as students communicate ideas and present work. The Kansas School for the Deaf began by purchasing Dell OptiPlex desktops and a PowerEdge 2650 server. The technology was implemented and soon, the students began to develop keyboarding skills, to connect to each other. As the applications and technology were implemented across all grade levels, the entire school was influenced and curriculum expanded.
