What Is Bluetooth?: Technology Overview

Overview Bluetooth is the codename for a technology specification for small form factor, low-cost, short range radio links between mobile PCs, mobile phones and other portable devices. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is an industry group consisting of leaders in the telecommunications and computing industries that are driving development of the technology and bringing it to market. With its origins at Ericsson in 1994, it is likely to appear first as a connection between mobile phones and Head-sets. Bluetooth-enabled PDA's will come next and from there it is expected to penetrate many other applications currently occupied by infra-red links (optoelectronic components).
