Bluetooth: Threats and Security Measures

Overview Bluetooth is an open industry standard for the unlicensed short-range radio communication of voice and data between IT devices, eliminating any need for wires and cables and permitting ad hoc networking. Development of Bluetooth is the result of an initiative in 1998 by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), whose membership today numbers 2,500 manufacturers. This paper describes the possible threats associated with the use of Bluetooth and identifies appropriate protective measures.
